Still there after freezing
or laser?
If a wart on a finger or around a nail is still there after freezing or laser, the next step is to check what it is now, not only to repeat the same removal. The American Academy of Dermatology notes that warts are often found on the fingers and around a nail, and the NHS advises seeing a doctor if a wart keeps coming back, is very painful, bleeds or changes in how it looks. Bring a record of what was tried, when, and what changed afterwards. The NHS also advises not to bite your nails or pick at a wart.
When a wart near a nail or on a finger remains after removal treatment, the important question is not simply “Which removal should I repeat?” It is whether the diagnosis, location, change over time, previous treatment and skin healing have been reviewed together.
WHY THE SAME STEP MAY NOT ANSWER EVERYTHING
Visible removal has a role. It also has limits.
Freezing and laser are established removal options; some warts require more than one session. But a persistent lesion can also reflect repeated irritation, healing skin that still looks rough, an incomplete response, spread to surrounding skin, or a condition that needs a fresh assessment. That is not proof that one branch of medicine “failed”; it is a reason not to repeat a procedure without context.
