Do these changes mean skin cancer?
No conclusion can be made from symptoms alone, but in-person diagnosis is important.
Patient question guide · Published
If a wart-like growth changes, hurts, itches, burns or bleeds without an obvious cut, prioritise in-person diagnosis before repeating self-treatment or removal. Prepare dated change photographs, symptom onset, previous procedures and biopsy reports, and products used. These signs alone do not prove a wart or skin cancer.
“A bump previously called a wart is getting larger, itchy and burning, and sometimes bleeds. Can I just remove it again?”
AAD recommends professional assessment for a wart-like growth that changes, hurts, itches, burns or bleeds. Other skin conditions, including skin cancer, can resemble a wart, so response to removal does not establish diagnosis. These signs also do not mean cancer by themselves.
