Can I use duct tape alone?
The evidence is conflicting, so benefit cannot be guaranteed. First check whether self-treatment is appropriate.
Patient question guide · Published
For some common or plantar warts, guidance describes covering salicylic acid with duct tape or a bandage, but this is not mandatory for everyone. Research on duct tape itself is conflicting. Follow the product and clinician instructions, and do not keep the area occluded if severe irritation, pain, bleeding or blisters develop.

The AAD describes placing duct tape or a bandage over salicylic acid. It also says studies of duct tape itself conflict, so faster clearance, cure or non-recurrence cannot be promised.

Near Gangnam Station, Seok-Yong Jo, PhD in Korean Medicine, draws on 24 years of wart-care experience to review previous records with the current lesion and plan individual Korean medicine care. Product, strength, duration, occlusion time, normal-skin irritation, prior freezing or laser and lesion distribution are reviewed. Bomyunghwan, Bomyungtang or immune pharmacopuncture are considered only when appropriate.

The AAD presents occlusion over salicylic acid as one method while explicitly noting conflicting duct-tape research. It is not converted into a guaranteed result or a claim about Bomyung outcomes.
