Plantar Wart Turns White After Salicylic Acid: Is It Working?

A wart may look pale and moist while salicylic acid is acting on its surface; this can be expected. Colour alone does not prove the wart is gone. Pause for marked soreness or irritation, and stop the product and seek advice if pain, bleeding or blisters develop.

“My plantar wart has turned white and soggy. Should I keep applying salicylic acid?”

White can reflect a surface change

The AAD says a wart may look moist and pale during salicylic-acid treatment and that this can be expected. Also track skin lines, thickness, pain and area; colour alone cannot confirm clearance.

Separate expected change from injured skin

Pause for a few days if the skin becomes extremely sore or irritated. Stop and seek clinical advice for pain, bleeding or blisters. Ask before use if you have diabetes, neuropathy or poor circulation, and recheck the method if surrounding normal skin is affected.

What Bomyung reassesses

Near Gangnam Station, Seok-Yong Jo, PhD in Korean Medicine, draws on 24 years of wart-care experience to review previous records with the current lesion and plan individual Korean medicine care. Product, strength, duration, normal-skin injury, prior freezing or laser, pressure pain and spread are reviewed. Bomyunghwan, Bomyungtang or immune pharmacopuncture are considered only when appropriate.

Questions before your visit

Does white mean the wart is dead?

It may reflect softened surface keratin, not confirmed clearance.

Can I cut away the white skin?

Avoid deep cutting or picking because it can cause bleeding and damage normal skin.

When should it be reassessed?

Seek review for severe pain, bleeding, blisters, spread, no change after prolonged use or doubt about the diagnosis.
