Can I use an OTC remover on a wart-like bump near my eye or mouth?

Do not apply an ordinary wart remover to a wart-like bump on the face, especially near the eye, nose or mouth. Salicylic-acid wart products are not for facial use and can irritate or damage these areas. Record the site, timeline, changes and any product already used, then seek an examination.

“A small bump near my eyelid or lip looks like a wart. Can I use a little hand-and-foot wart remover?”

Facial bumps are not an at-home wart-treatment target

AAD advises professional assessment for facial warts and does not list facial flat warts for salicylic-acid self-treatment. MedlinePlus and Mayo Clinic state that salicylic acid should not be used on the face or around the nose and mouth. A photograph cannot distinguish every wart-like growth from another skin condition.

Record the exposure before choosing another product

Note the exact site, first date, changes in size, colour or surface, itching, burning, bleeding, shaving or cosmetic contact, and the name and active ingredient of anything applied. If product entered an eye, nose or mouth, follow the label's first-aid directions and contact local medical or pharmacy support. Do not keep testing the same product.

  • Distance from eyelid, nose and lip
  • First date and speed of change
  • Itching, pain, bleeding or oozing
  • Shaving, cosmetics or adhesive contact
  • Product, ingredient, applications and reaction

Bomyung's individual in-person review

Near Gangnam Station, Seok-Yong Jo, doctor of Korean medicine, draws on 24 years of wart-care experience to review previous treatment with the current lesion and plan individual Korean medicine care. Facial site, distribution, skin injury and prior response are checked before deciding whether Bomyunghwan, Bomyungtang or immune pharmacopuncture may be considered. A photo does not establish diagnosis or a scar-free outcome.
